Field Director

Position Description:
The Field Directors are an integral part of the True North team. The Field Directors work in concert with one another to oversee field aspects of the program. Both Field Directors are directly supervised by the Program Director. Responsibilities include project planning,
hiring, management, and supervision of Guides; as well as the facilitation of Guide training and development. The Directors
Participate in the on-call rotation.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees recruitment, hiring and training of assistant and lead guides.
  • Provide direct support and management to Guides including regular field visits, debriefs and in-the-field trainings as well as regular
  • participation and facilitation of field and therapeutic trainings occurring outside of the field setting.
  • Provide performance feedback and appropriate evaluations to all Guides and other field support staff, including debrief sessions of Guides exiting the field.
  • Help Guides deepen their understanding of therapeutic objectives and enhance their ability to utilize outdoor living and primitive skills as part of their work with students in the field.
  • Work in concert with the Co-Director, to construct a training schedule for Guides, including preparation of training materials (packet and other materials)
  • Manage the scheduling for Guides as directed by the Program Director.
  • Be prepared to fill in for Guide positions as the need arises.
  • Provide on-call and emergency response support to the field as part of a regularly scheduled on-call rotation.
  • Recruit, assess and hire Guides; this includes the facilitation of on-going Guide development.
  • Represent True North Wilderness Program at conferences and other professional settings.
  • Actively participate in the development, planning, and further assessment of the program. This will include development of Guide policies and a guidebook as a field resource.
  • Support the Co-Director in general with any relevant projects or tasks.
  • Attend Weekly Field Department Meetings.

Certifications Required:

  • Wilderness First Responder, EMT, or WEMT and CPR
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification provided by True North

Education and Licensing Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree is required.
  • Have ample experience leading wilderness therapy trips.

Supervision:
Given: Supervises all Guides. Provides post trip debriefing on field related issues with Guides. Provides ideas and opportunities for
professional development for guides. Works directly with the Co-Director to ensure smooth interaction between the operations
department and other departments.

Received:
Receives performance feedback and evaluation from the Program Director. Consults regularly with Executive Director, Program
Director, Clinical Director, Office Manager as well as other administrative staff.
