Description
Due to demand for our services, we are looking for several trained therapists to serve as Homeward Bound transition coaches. This position offers significant flexibility and could be either a part-time or full-time position. The following information will help you better understand Homeward Bound and the role of a transition coach.
Homeward Bound was initially established to successfully reunite teens and their families after placement in a wilderness or residential program. For several years, we provided these Aftercare services to families all over the country. By combining in-home visits with telephone coaching (including in-the-moment support which we call Direct Access), we became adept at getting to know the family extremely well and helping them make the changes they needed to make for a successful transition.
In response to feedback from our families and requests from educational consultants, we began providing Earlycare services to families who were struggling but hoping to avoid sending their son/daughter to an out-of-home treatment program. While some teens still required out-of-home treatment, many were able to remain at home.
Transition coaches work with teens and families in both Aftercare and Earlycare contexts. Their responsibilities include providing coaching services to clients, working collaboratively with therapists, programs and consultants, as well as other various tasks.
Qualifications
Our “transition coaches” are trained therapists, with a deep conviction in the importance of working with the entire family system. Our coaches are adept at handling crisis situations in a calm and confident manner. They have a solid understanding of how anxiety and mood disorders, personality dynamics, addiction, learning disorders, and so forth affect the family and vice versa. They are engaging in their presentation skills and excellent at forming good connections with others. In addition, because we work with families around the country, our coaches have a sense of adventure and enjoy traveling once or twice a month to work with a family in another state.
Our experience has taught us that “transition coaches” should have at least three years of experience after completing their Masters degree.
