We are seeking full-time wilderness therapy guides. These positions are available immediately. As our company continues to expand, we continue to seek exceptional individuals to support our growth and vision. True North is a small and intimate therapeutic wilderness program located in the Mad River Valley of central Vermont. True North provides personalized therapeutic interventions for adolescents ages 14-17 in a wilderness environment with an emphasis on assessment, transition support, and family participation. We believe that inspiring and empowering students to identify positive choices and develop strategies for maintaining healthy relationships sets the cornerstone for a lifetime of success. Our approach emphasizes collaborative and non-punitive methods, and for our students the change process occurs through the development of relationships. Experiencing the natural beauty and simplicity of the wilderness environment allows our students to leave behind the distractions and complications of their lives before True North. With the support of our guides, students are able to focus on themselves and address personal struggles.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who have experience working with adolescents and who have a desire to inspire and mentor at-risk teens. Applicants must have a passion for the outdoors, an ability to be flexible and provide support to students and staff. Guides must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills and be able to manage challenging situations in the field.
Pay starts at $100.00 day and ranges up to $150.00 day. Benefits include simple 1RAs, 1/3 coverage on health insurance and extensive professional gear deals. True North encourages professional development through stipends for wilderness first responder (WFR,) other medical courses, hard skills workshops, and professional conferences. Guides work 8 days on, then have 6 days off. Two guides work directly with a group of up to 6 students; they provide 24 hour supervision, develop healthy and supportive relationships with students, teach outdoor and primitive living skills, and participate as part of a therapeutic treatment team.
- 21 years of age or older
- Bachelors degree
- Relevant life and work experience are preferred
- Comfortable in a wilderness setting
- Physically capable of backpacking with a 50lbs pack over rugged terrain
- CPR and First Aid
- Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is preferred and will be required to become a lead guide
- State and Federal Background check
Salary: $100.00 day and ranges up to $150.00 day
