Contribute to Data Collection & Research Outcomes
Participating in data collection is essential for producing accurate and meaningful research outcomes. This participation enhances the reliability, validity, and generalizability of the findings, which can then inform policies, improve services, or drive innovation.
Without sufficient and diverse data, research risks being biased or incomplete, ultimately limiting its impact and usefulness in solving real-world problems. Contributing to data collection is, therefore, a crucial step in advancing knowledge and creating positive change.
GOLDEN THREAD
What does it mean to join the Golden Thread (GT)?
To join the GT means that you are adding your program’s name to a list of participating providers on the GT Release of Information (ROI) form that adult clients or parents of adolescents complete. When your program’s name is checked, and consent is given for data sharing, you’ll have access to data from the approved programs. It also means that you are sharing data from your account.
The GT is a software system that shares outcomes and client progress information between participating
What are the benefits to joining the GT?
- Your parents and clients won’t have to complete as many surveys because the GT copies and pastes results from one account to another when redundancies occur.Â
- Your therapists will be able to see historical and current progress data on the same graph
- In some cases, other programs will help you to obtain post discharge data.Â
- The GT bot will automatically create all of the needed surveys in your OutcomeTools account.
How to participate in the GT?
The GT is free for NATSAP members.
Neither your outcomes nor your program name is shared with other programs in the GT. Only individual scores are charted.

RESEARCH DESIGNATED PROGRAMS
What does it mean to be a Research Designated Program (RDP)?
The RDP is a NATSAP endorsement designed to acknowledge programs that tracks data collected using the following instruments that are a part of the NATSAP Research Network: Youth Outcome Questionnaire, Family Assessment Device, Consent Form & varied NATSAP demographic forms.
RDP Levels:
- Bronze = 70% of Admit census sampled
- Silver = Bronze + 70% of discharge data
- Gold = Silver + 25% of 6 & 12 months post discharge data
Programs are encouraged to aim for the Gold level of data collection to maximize the accuracy and reliability of research outcomes.
Providers can be an RDP without participating in the Golden Thread or the NATSAP research network.
How to become a RDP?
